INTRO:
Because digital artistry is such a new and highly varied
art form, I took the opportunity below to explain what it is to
me. I will continue to add to this section as I explore and change
my thoughts about what I'm doing and how I'm doing it.
My
digital artistry begins with one or more digital photographic
images which I then combine and modify on the computer (mainly with
Photoshop) to create an entirely new composition. My goal is not
to fool the viewer by having the resulting piece look like a photograph
or painting. It is, instead, to create very original pieces of new
art.
The challenge
and satisfaction that I get from this process is the way in
which it allows me to put my personal interpretation onto an image
or a related group of images. I feel that what I'm doing is exploring
and celebrating the essence of the photographic imagery by superimposing
my aesthetic and emotional reactions to it. It also provides a way
for me to express the more whimsical, playful side of my nature.
Each of my
pieces is quite different and they range from being based on
just one or two images to seven or eight. I begin by thinking about
the subject I want to explore and looking at a group of my photographs
of that subject. I often use one image as the starting point and
begin adding to it. It's a very interactive, tril-and-error process.
This art
form is so new there is not an agreed upon name for it ... I
call it digital artistry but it is also referred to as digital manipulation,
photo manipulation, photo montage art, photo creative art, and more.
It is a highly creative and artistic medium with a huge range of
possibilities. I'm pleased and excited about being on the cutting
edge of this wonderful new medium.
