Synergy occurs when the working =
together of=20
two or more things produces an effect greater than the sum =
of their=20
individual effects. This show is about synergy on multiple =
levels in=20
Jeanne and Steve Gadol's new works.=20
The pieces in the show make use of photographic imagery =
with=20
papers, metals, backings, coatings, fabrics and acrylic =
paints.=20
The result is a synergistic effect of techniques and =
mediums=20
resulting in unique and creative works in which the =
photographic=20
element can range from being easily visible to quite =
obscured.=20
This show also illustrates synergy =
between two=20
artists. Although their styles and techniques are quite =
different,=20
Jeanne and Steve learn from and are inspired by each other =
such that=20
their work evolves and changes from each other's visions and =
feedback.=20
Jeanne is combining her photographs with her acrylic =
paintings in=20
a variety of ways on both paper (wall art) and silk =
(wearable art).=20
Steve has developed processes for using metallic plates =
and foils=20
behind the photograph to add depth and life to the image. He =
has=20
transformed photos captured with his color infrared camera =
into=20
dramatic and colorful surrealistic prints.
About Jeanne Gadol
Jeanne's art is familiar to many =
people on the=20
coast. Although best known as a nature photographer, she is =
an=20
accomplished digital artist as well and is constantly =
exploring new=20
directions for her art, including printing on tiles and =
publishing=20
her book Lessons From the Birds. Her digital art was =
featured=20
in an international magazine and she has studied with and =
assisted=20
National Geographic Photographer Ralph Lee Hopkins and world =
renowned color landscape photographer and environmental =
activist=20
Robert Glenn Ketchum. She's received awards in both =
photography and=20
digital art and has had numerous individual and group shows =
in this=20
area and on the peninsula.=20
About a year and a half ago she began painting with =
acrylics and=20
finding ways to combine her paintings with her beloved =
photographs.=20
This is her first foray into the world of wearable art. Her =
art can=20
be seen at the Dolphin Gallery and her book can be purchased =
at the=20
Lodge or Four Eyed Frog. You can learn more about her at http://www.jeannegadol.com/.
About Steve Gadol
After thirty years of working in =
the computer=20
industry as a programmer, systems architect and =
technologist, Steve=20
Gadol retired in 2001. In the years since, photography has =
become=20
one of his major interests. He has always loved animals and =
the=20
outdoors so it was not surprising the natural world quickly =
became=20
his primary subject. With his wife Jeanne he has traveled to =
several=20
of earth's wild places to photograph the landscapes and the =
animals=20
that inhabit them. A little over two years ago Mr. Gadol has =
became=20
interested in new photographic printing processes, such as =
gold=20
backed monochrome images and printing on metals like copper. =
More=20
recently he has extended these processes to include color =
images.=20
This past year Mr. Gadol has also been creating artistic =
prints from=20
images taken with a color infrared camera. His work is in =
the=20
Dolphin Gallery and Allegro Gallery in Woodside, CA and he =
was=20
awarded first place for monochrome photography at Art in the =
Redwoods.=20
The Dolphin Gallery is located at =
39225=20
Highway One in downtown Gualala, CA
(behind the post =
office on=20
the south side). Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 =
p.m.
